Dr Mark Harris is the head of endocrine research at the Queensland Children’s Hospital. He has a broad range of research interests but more recently his primary focus has been the preservation of beta cell function in children with Type 1 diabetes (T1D). He undertook his paediatric endocrinology training at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, followed by completion of a doctoral degree at the Garvan Institute, and then a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. After returning from overseas he has held positions as a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, the Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland, the Mater Children’s Hospital, Brisbane and the Queensland Children’s Hospital. He is currently a member of the Childhood and Adolescent Growth committee and a national immunotherapy collaborative established by JDRF.
