Lara Graves
Lara Graves is a paediatric endocrinologist at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and a PhD candidate at the Children’s Medical Research Institute through the University of Sydney. Lara is developing a pre-clinical AAV-based approach for the treatment of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Her research includes discovering AAV capsids that target adrenocortical progenitors, inducing ectopic expression of 21-hydroxylase in the liver, and ultimately designing a gene-editing approach that targets the adrenocortical progenitor cells. Lara trained in paediatric endocrinology in the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and also worked in Genetic Metabolic Disorders at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Lara has a research and translational interest in gene therapy for endocrine disorders. She has a clinical interest in monogenic endocrinological disorders, particularly congenital adrenal hyperplasia. In a previous life, Lara was a small animal veterinarian during which time she managed dogs with Addison’s disease, cats with hyperthyroidism and a turtle with metabolic bone disease.
